Sexual Health

Our Nurse Practitioner Melissa Hadley-Barrett runs a Sexual Function Clinic at the Prostate Clinic on Thursdays.

A referral is not needed to visit our Sexual Function Clinic and claim your Medicare rebate.

She has extensive experience in male sexual dysfunction/health including erectile dysfunction, penile rehabilitation after prostate cancer treatment, penile self-injection, premature ejaculation, STI screening/treatments, hypoactive sexual desire and hyperactive sexual desire.

Ideally, you will see Melissa before you start prostate cancer treatment so you can discuss what to expect regarding sexual function and what needs to be done to optimise recovery.

Penile rehabilitation after Prostate Cancer

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common problem for men after prostate cancer treatments as the erection nerves are closely related to the prostate gland.

Each person needs to be assessed individually to determine the degree of the problem and possible solutions.

There are four common treatment options:

  • Medication
    • Viagra, Spedra and Cialis
  • Vacuum Devices
    • Cylindrical tubes are placed over the penis and air is pumped out of the cylinder so blood is drawn into the penis as pressure builds up
  • Injection therapy
    • Injections relax smooth muscle and increase blood flow to the penis
  • Penile Prosthesis
    • Suitable for men who fail the above-mentioned treatments where a mechanical device is implanted into the business which is activated via an implanted activation button in the scrotum
  • Counselling
